“Diet Drinks” an oxymoron?
Oct 12th, 2008 | By admin | Category: consumer knowledgeDiet drinks don’t have any calories (well, technically they have some, but it’s usually under 1) so most people assume they are a great choice for dieting - no more calories than water but with a fun and exciting taste. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately the issue isn’t that simple. ’Diet drinks’ contain artificial sweeteners that are hundreds of times sweeter than sugar, so they can sweeten a drink in small amounts and not add calories to it. When you consume these drinks, blood sugar level isn’t affected. This gets your brain all confused - it begins to associate the taste of sweet with low calorie. This has been shown in scientific studies to lead to overeating of sweet foods that do have calories in them. The diet drink itself may not have significant calories in it, however you’ll usually end up consuming more calories in the long run. Water is always a safe option, but if you want something fun, natural and healthy give Vivi Smart Soda a try.
