Smart Soda vs. Cola
May 10th, 2009 | By admin | Category: consumer knowledgeIs cola intrinsically bad for you? The key ingredients for a cola are caffeine, phosphoric acid and a whole lot of sugar (we’re not talking about diet drinks here, which have their own problems. Without the high levels of sugar, most colas lose their taste (think about what they taste like after the ice in the cup melts).
Finally, there’s the caffeine issue. Our philosophy is that if you’re looking for a caffeine boost, go with almost-zero-calorie coffee or tea - it can be enjoyed hot or chilled and tastes better than all those artificially sweetened diet drinks. Soft drinks are supposed to quench your thirst, but when they contain caffeine it’s counter productive because caffeine triggers your body to lose water. Smart Soda actually helps hydrate your body, it has no caffeine.
Vivi Smart Soda is formulated in a way that tastes much better when there is less sugar - in fact, Vivi uses almost half the amount of sugar as most cola to get its great taste. Another problem with most cola is the rampant use of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Vivi Smart Soda uses natural evaporated cane juice, not high fructose corn syrup.
And finally, phosphoric acid. It’s one of the ingredients that makes cola what it is. it provides a distinctive taste, however it’s controversial because scientific studies have linked it to lower bone density. Vivi Smart Soda only uses natural acidulents like citric acid (which makes lemons sour) and malic acid (which makes apples tangy).
Cola may taste good, and enjoying it once in a while certainly won’t be that bad for you - but for a beverage you’re going to be consuming on a regular basis, it’s probably not the best choice. Vivi Smart Soda is an excellent alternative if you like carbonated beverages but don’t like how many calories and controversial ingredients they contain.
